Like Flash or hate Flash, the fact remains that Flash enabled web site have a major prevalence on the web. I hate the fact that I should have the most technologically available device, but don't just because Apple won't allow Flash - which they could easily allow.
Politics and a pissing contest between Apple and Adobe and I have to suffer. Jobs is just trying to push for his own web app. But there is a jailbreak Flash app. Jobs may not put customers' desires at the top of his list, but DevTeam does.
Setting aside wether or not they "could easily allow" with all their various carrier agreements and such. Flash is just a bloated buggy hog that will make the iphone run badly. Apple won't allow that. And they shouldn't.
Flash needs to be rewritten from the ground up. Optimized to work with OS X and the iPhone OS (which is a version of osx). Maybe then Apple will let it on the iPhone.

Battery life? Not saying it isn't worth it to you. Just saying, there are trade offs (which you are well aware of, most likely).
None that I'm aware of... my battery is getting pretty old now, but in the beginning I was getting 3 to 4 hours out of it on average.
This was the same as I was getting when it was running Vista Home Premium.
Power management has been pretty decent on the Dell from 10.6.2 on up to 10.6.6.
Down to about 2 hours now. This is due to an old and very heavily used battery over the last 3 years. Battery meter is already telling me to replace the battery due to low battery life.
I'll just buy another laptop since a new battery costs about half the price of a new laptop.
Battery Life, build quality, customer support...all big things.
Build quality on my 1525 is on par with many Apple products I've owned.
Battery life is similar. Remember, Apple and Dell get their batteries from the same manufacturer. ;)
And Dell support for their hardware is top notch.
When the track pad went out on mine they replaced it with no questions asked. If it's still in the warranty period, Dell will fix it regardless of what OS you're running. They will simply run a hardware diag to see if it's a legitimate hardware failure. If yes, the defective part is replaced.

Yes, it does.
For whom doesn't understand what we are talkin' about: There is a way to enable 4~5 fingers gesture function which is allowed only for developers. Purchase Xcode($4.99) from Mac App Store, install it, connect the iPad to the USB port and Xcode will recognize your iPad and there is a button asks you to use this iPad for development purpose. Click it and it will ask your developer ID but you can simply click cancel, it will anyway continue the procedure to enable the function. After that, go to the preference - general on you iPad, you will get to see the option for the 4~5 fingers gesture. I personally think, it is worth more than $5.
Dude, Just set up a free Apple Developer account then download it for free from ADC. :)
EDIT: My bad. Guess it's not free, I'm pretty sure I had an account before.

Only because people are dumb and think that they always need to be using the best computer. Hate to break it, but the MacBook isn't the best.
so are you saying that if someone wants a macbook right now, is to go out and buy one this instant? Even though it's 6 months old and the price hasn't dropped?

It's nice to see the generally positive comments on this forum, other forums for "professionals" are not so happy!
Personally I can't wait to start working with it.
What these naysayers are NOT saying is what pro features are missing. Until they list something wrong with it, they are just being irrational. My experience is, lots of guys don't like their pro apps getting too easy to use, because they want their skills to be considered special. They hate it when, "Anyone can do it".
As others have pointed out, editing skills isn't just about technical expertise with the tools. What sets the better editors apart, is the choices they make. Think Walter Murch.

According to the Wikipedia article, a Home Basic upgrade is only $99.95, which is cheaper than the standard $129 for OS X releases. Then again, education customers can often get Mac OS for around $70 in some cases, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if there will be education discounts for Vista or how much they will be. With so many versions and price points for Vista and an unknown price tag for Leopard, it's very complicated to make comparisons...
Now one of the big questions is, who can get a Home Basic upgrade and how much are Home Basic users missing out on if they get that as opposed to Aero, etc.? No one knows for sure all the details at this point and we won't know for sure until official announcements are made. Although I would take OS X over Windows any day, we have to be cautious I think before saying Mac's upgrades are cheaper than Windows'. It looks like in many cases they will be, but not necessarily in all cases.

Ballmer said his company's upcoming Zune player fits into the hardware model because the value, if its successful, is all in the software. "It's in community [the ability to share music and pictures with other Zune users]," he said. "I want to squirt you a picture of my kids. You want to squirt me back a video of your vacation. That's a software experience."
"....Oh, she's hot. I wonder if she squirts?" :D
OK, mods can delete that one.

I was just about to post this. The UK store appears down for me at the moment. This is based on the edu price (the UK edu store is up for me).
I'm teetering the edge of buying the black one. If that price was for a 1x1GB memory config I'd be a lot more tempted.
I think I can wait until the MBP 13.3 that will be announced in January (alongside the touchscreen ipod). :D
I wouldn't get the black. I had one, and it looked great fresh from the box, but looked old and tired 30 minutes later with grease marks all over it. Stick with the white as the smooth plastic finish doesn't show marks and is easier to clean.

What a shame that a company wants to get their products in the hands of the common folk. How dare they try to sell to anyone but the self-appointed elitist crowd?

Apple restricts use of technologies required by products like Flash Player. Until Apple eliminates these restrictions, Adobe cannot provide Flash Player for the iPhone or iPod Touch.
People don't care about Flash Player itself, they just want the ability to play video in the browser, which the iPhone is perfectly capable of doing. So instead of lobbying Apple for Flash support we should be lobbying web developers for video tag support.
I support this idea. I believe this is the same way Apple looks at it.

ME ME ME ME! because you want a new phone when you want it, apple sucks? geeze what are we, 12?
I never said that Apple sucks. Actually, in my last post, I said that I loved the iPhone, and that I thought it was a great product. I was merely expressing my disappointment/frustration with the possible changing of the product refresh cycles this year. Again, they have the right to release their products when they want. But my 3G just isn't really functional for me anymore, and I'm gonna need to upgrade sooner rather than later. I wish I could upgrade to another iPhone this summer, but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen. So I may have to upgrade to something else.

For those that do not believe in a higher power or absolute truth, man, in and of himself, is the highest order of existence/being/evolution, etc.. etc.
Here, you are developing a misconception based on a religious perspective. Some unbelievers may see the human race as the "highest order", but this mostly arises from exposure to religious types who expound man as the last step shy of god (or perhaps just under the angelic host or whatever). Take theology away and humans are just one more species of animal. I think a great many unbelievers view humans as part of nature, not at the top of it, a "quintessence of dust" rather than a "paragon of animals".
Man's capacity for altruism, self sacrifice, and compassion are seen as proof of his independence from God. "See what we can accomplish on our own... we don't need God." In this manner all of man's action is an act of self glorification and self reliance.
"... we don't need God" is a statement that makes no sense. I can understand how you see it, that not accepting the existence of the deity represents a failure of character, because to you its existence and presence is obvious, self-evident and overpowering. Yet, without that view, "self glorification" is not meaningful, because we do not consider the "glorification of god" to have any relevance to what we do. We do what needs or wants to be done and we look at the world from ground-level, not through the lens of "cloud-dwellers". It is what it is.
However, on a spiritual level, I must recognize that scripture teaches us that our "good deeds" are worthless if our heart is not right with God...The Bible does not teach a theology of works. It's not about what you do, it's about your relationship with Christ.
Again, as I always say, this is ultimately an issue of faith and I completely understand that it can be hard to comprehend for some. And it is a subtle nuance to understand the difference between doing something because you adhere to a set of principles (right vs. wrong) and doing it because it is an outflow of your relationship with God.
No, I have been there, and I clearly understand, by remembering what it was like. I can honestly say, from experience, that what you are describing is indistinguishable from being delusional.
I'm very familiar with projection. I can assure you that is not what's happening here. I'm merely presenting what God has communicated to us through the Bible. Could it be that your skepticism and cynicism is a projection of something within you? Why don't you come over he and lie on this couch and tell me about your mother... ;)
I am not skeptical, that implies doubt. Road apples have a distinct smell, my lack of belief is the opposite of a shortcoming. My "cynicism" is based on observation and experience. I know what to expect from most religious people, as far as the context of their theology pertains to me or my interactions with them. These are not personal issues that require any kind of therapy.
This is why we have a problem. Both of us think the other's view is faulty. The unbeliever, however, would be ok with leaving the believer alone, except, in too many cases, the believer feels a need (or is directed by doctrine) to change the unbeliever's mind.
Well, first of all, "clerics" are not required for us to interpret scripture or have a relationship with God... Scripture stands alone as authoritative regardless of how I "feel" about it or what I "want" it to say. If I'm seeking to find an "exception" in scripture to justify my own position then my heart is not in the right place.
What you see in the text is what you believe to be there. What you have been taught is there. Yet, other sects, variants and opportunists find alternate meanings that serve their needs. This is history, past and present, for many centuries and over many belief sets (not just christian) and some of it has been extraordinarily ugly.
Unbelief, by contrast, does not get employed for justifying anything. How can it? There is no canon to point to, no heartfelt agnostic tenets to stir up, no sacred things to defend.

Just become some hacky software to read chip temperatures broke doesn't mean you shouldn't install an important firmware update.
Duuude, you're soooo cool (and quite a fibber).
If you bother to read the previous stuff, you would have found out that its not the fact its reading the temps wrong, I could care less, its just the fact that my fans are being blasted @ 6K RPM on idle. I personally don't mind the heat, and would gladly sacrafice some silence for heat.
And as a general rule, if stuff is working fine, don't mess with it, because you are asking for trouble.

All of Apple's supposed "new" features are not as new as they seem.
I like what they are doing with the stuff, but right now they need to save their *** and give away some "secret" features before people stop caring.
I don't think that they're in any danger of that. This was a sneak peek. It was not a Beta Release, it is not a "features complete" release. Come January, if there aren't major improvements, then I think what you're suggesting could be discussed further. Until then, it's not fair to say that Leopard isn't going to be a success. We simply don't know enough about the final version to make any level of educated statement in that regard.
