Biggest problem with Veloster: it needs a more powerful engine. Maybe Hyundai will see it fit to install the 173 bhp 2.4-liter I-4 found on the current Kia Forte, which would give the Veloster a needed performance boost. :)

A FELONYhas been committed. Who cares about the company involved or anything else. We live in a country that has the rule of law, and it allows for someone (or a company) to file a complaint with their local police department

Sorry, mate, but I think you're missing the point.
For a company like Apple losing a prototype and it ending up in the hands of a tech blogger months before its release was probably a big blow. But that damage is now done, nothing more they can do about that. The only thing they get to decide is how to handle the matter now with respect to the felony (probably) committed by the finder and Gizmodo. Are their interests best served by getting the police to bash down this guy's door and confiscate the tools of his trade? Apple is a corporation owned by its shareholders and upheld by passionate customers who buy things at a premium because they feel good about them and the company that makes them. It doesn't get to throw a tantrum. It has an image to consider. What's to be gained by tearing up this blogger? A deterrent for similar cases in the future? Give me a break. The next guy who gets his hands on a prototype will just be a bit more careful not to show his face in the video and claim it was sent to him by an anonymous source. That's all.
So, yes, it was a felony. But it still lacked style and class to go after the felon like that. And style and class is what Apple is all about.

Because I couldn't wait to get my hands on a Mac? :)

Apple showed with the Intel transition that keeping the same form factor gives consumers an intuitive confidence in new products.

Sounds like the iPhone will mirror this by trading off the popularity of the nano form factor.

You're making a straw man argument by bringing up the Honda/Acura comparison. That's not what people have been arguing. People have been arguing that there *is* something unique about the Mac product *itself* that isn't tied to the branding or the perceived "prestige".

As I mentioned before, it's like comparing a fully loaded Ford Taurus with an entry level BMW. Driving a Ford Taurus is never going to *feel* like driving a BMW. The handling is going to feel totally different. Believe or not, some car buyers are loyal to a particular brand and are willing to pay more, for reasons that have nothing to do with prestige. I mentioned BMW's handling but it could be something else like: safety (e.g. Volvo, at least in the old days), reliability (e.g. Lexus, consistently top rated by Consumer Reports), comfort/smooth ride (e.g. Mercedes). The point is, you're missing the point if you think a Mac's appeal is only as a status symbol.

I'm not contending that the Macs increasing popularity is solely caused from a perceived "prestige" factor, but that is certainly helping matters. And a trip to your local snooty coffee shop is ground zero for the people who purchase products solely to be seen with them.

Like I said earlier, most of the people here are mac diehards - not fad followers. But I am saying that the majority of the boost Apple is experiencing IS from fad jumpers. Like it or not, it is what it is and it's exactly what Apple marketing wanted to happen.

( map updates are free.. unlike Garmin )
    ....

I think smartphone are already impacting GPS sales. Such premium services that Garmin etc offer such as Traffic will become free for smartphones - these companies have to compete.
I don't think you've been paying close attention. All the gps companies now offer lifetime map updates for about the price that one update used to cost. And there are bundles with devices that render the lifetime cost to nearly free, maybe it comes out to $20 or something.

Also, they have finally seemed to learn that their fancy, pay-for traffic systems are crap. They are disappearing and only the FM-based traffic remains. And, other than the additional hardware cost (also usually bundled for less), that is free.

That said, the traffic info on the iOS Maps app is better for me than my Garmin's FM traffic hookup.
I didn't interpret it as network traffic. What would be the purpose of "a crowd sourced traffic service"? If the goal is to provide "an improved traffic service", how does that relate to network traffic? Tell Apple which hotspots are overloaded? With what end goal?

On the other hand, I don't know how Apple could be accurately collecting vehicle traffic data without pinpointing the location of your iPhone (e.g. on a local highway) so I guess there's room for interpretation.

Ditto. Who cares about network traffic at the user level? Are you going to go somewhere else to use data on a phone because of this? (which would have to be many miles away, hardly a quick walk)

But I also wonder how crowd-data would help automobile traffic details.

A real problem (for some), but yes, it has been misstated and sensationalized in the press (just as Apple has themselves minimized it).

FWIW, I’ve been testing mine, and, holding it “that way” (even lightly) will sometimes, in some places (not all that rare) cause several bars to drop on the meter. And sometimes not.

But even when I’m getting one measly bar, I’m able to hold a call without dropping, and good quality, and use 3G Internet at the same time. In fact, I saw bars dropping and squeezed hard, then walked around the “bad spot” trying to make the connection drop. I couldn’t—Google Maps kept streaming and the call kept going.

So I agree with reports that when bars are low, the iPhone 4 acts the same as an earlier phone with more bars. A BETTER antenna design—but not in every way.

(Of course, with the new meter we’ll all be seeing less bars. Having my calls work is what I care about though. And my iPhone 4 has done great at that so far.)

While you're waiting for Apple to come up with a fix (if ever they come up with one), why don't you hold it in a way so it doesn't drop your calls...

People change their grip by habit, with their mind on the call, not on babying the phone. New habits take time before they’re 100%. I notice myself holding my phone all KINDS of ways—it’s not on purpose. And shouldn’t have to be—but any phone has spots where holding it a certain way matters, and the iPhone 4 probably more so than most.

    I see that now :)

Purpoted leaked Leopard images/info at PowerPage:

    http://www.powerpage.org/archives/2006/08/exclusive_leopard_feature_set_leaked.html

I'm inclined to believe they're real, and I like them :) Expos for Safari tabs? It's like they read my mind. I hope they're real come Monday.

They do look/sound good, and I like most of the features they claim, but the Spotlight screenshots look faked to me. Not professional enough.

Can you imagine what would have happened if some of this stuff was actually in-stock at the Apple retail stores!

I would be giving the Apple Sales Representatives my sympathy. It could potentially be a relive of the day after thanksgiving for them or grand opening.

In a way this makes the iPhone cheaper, seeing how I will save on a GPS device . Although right now iPhones tell me to drive into buildings in my city, so a revamp of the whole thing is always good.

LOL, this reminded me of the Office episode where GPS tells Michael to drive into the lake, and he does.

Stop being a fool. In many cases you can get an iPhone for free or even $49.

Oh yes indeed, but you must be referring to deals as this:

A WEEK iPhone battery life? Even if you cripple the phone by disabling features, there's still no way it would last even close to a week unless it's in sleep mode the entire time

Actually I usually can go about 3-4 days with my iPhone 4 without recharging. More if I pushed it. Managing what you do with it really helps. I don't watch videos on it and don't do a lot of network traffic so that really extends the battery life. I found that videos, games, and GPS are the biggest battery drains followed by net activity.

Yes you are right, the husband is obviously guilty of attempted murder. I'm just saying that in this case the guy should be let go. Call me a monster who believes in eugenics, but people who are stupid pollute the gene pool don't deserve to exist. Someone who throws themselves on a car is, to use your termonology, prima facie guilty of being an idiot; and therefore does not deserve to exist and pollute the gene pool (in my belief system at least). So you think it is perfectly acceptable to murder anyone you regard as an idiot, do you?

I'm not a thrifty person by nature, so it says plenty that I refuse to pay the prices they're asking for these mags on the iPad. It really is that simple. Make them $1.99 and sales will go through the roof.

Yea, the value for the price is not there. You can get the paper version of Wired for $10/yr via Amazon. Why would you pay the crazy prices for the digital version, if anything it should be even cheaper.

It's not Conde Nast being smarter its Conde Nast not knowing how to execute a digital strategy that works.

wish they would call them Christmas ads;)

uh, yeah... cuz who cares about the other 68 million people in the USA? If you're not a Christian, too bad, right?! All ads should be aimed solely at Christians that celebrate Christmas, not some other crazy made-up holiday celebrating some silly fictional fairy tale!

I'm all for companies protecting their IP.

However, it seems like Nokia is grasping at straws here since they've been turn down a couple times already.

Also... I really believe that there should be a time limit on when you can sue a company over an infringement when there is a shipping product involved. Waiting until it's wildly successful and then suing is silly. If they cared so much about their IP, they should have sued 4 years ago when the iPhone came out.
