You are not necessarily talking about motivation which is either conscious or unconscious. The objection to this idea of man - and other species, too - being altruistic without a licence from El is highly objectionable itself. Is it that you do not want to allow independent action? Where then is free will? Where are other faiths? Does the giving of alms by Muslims count for nothing, too?
No, no, no.
All good deeds spring from God, because He loves us.
Atheists/agnostics that do good, are just lying about their place with God.

As for 'professionals' getting pissy:
I don't think any of them care too much about the new features as much as they care about the speed updates. That's the biggest benefit for them.
The 'quick' editing features are useful for some 'pro' edits, definitely useful for a pro-sumer.
My best friend is an editor in a production house in Hollywood and his concern was that they didn't talk about tape workflow, video in/out cards, 3rd party support or XML-based export - among other things.
Just the concern is that they re-built the app and added a lot of GUI and 'smart' features but they didn't say anything about the dirty nuts & bolts.
So - it's an area of concern.
If Apple did what they did with iMove - re-built it from the ground up and removed features (most of which were re-added in the next version)
Well that would be a concern as the 'new' version wouldn't have support for their existing workflows.
(not workflows like "we like to do things this way" more workflows like "because of how this was shot or because we need to export to this specific tape deck" workflows that you can't really mess with)
It's mundane stuff to 'fans' and 'prosumers' but critical for higher end production houses.
A lot of people (me included) were pretty annoyed when Quicktime X came out with fewer features than QT7 . . .
As for the other reason editors might be grumpy:
Some of their 'work' will be partially replaced by smart features.
So they might worry that their exec sees this and gets rid of their assistant because "the software can do it!" which isn't necessarily the case.
Professionals get grumpy when all of a sudden software allows people to do things that used to be their 'trick' exclusively.
Old designers complain about Creative Suite, photographers complain about Photoshop/Lightroom/Aperture, music producers complain about Pro Tools and now editors will complain about Final Cut.

These options have always been there, but I'm not sure they're sufficient to divert this type of exploit (assuming it exists/works, since people are arguing fervently that it's a hoax). The way I understand it, a WiFi device looking to join a network is doing active sensing even when it will only join preferred networks -- this pretty much must be true, since it can join a preferred hidden network, which is not itself broadcasting its availability. So the problem comes when a malevolent entity responds to the ping that the WiFi card puts out. I'm not sure just telling your computer to not join open networks would make any difference at that level. For instance, in analogy, with the BT exploit, one was not required to pair with the device propagating the virus -- just be discoverable.
Well a computer to computer network must be set up; how else can he transfer files? One card acts as the gateway and assigns ip... from what I can tell in the video

Why is he blaming it on us? Its "ultimate"ly his decision to use and post what information was given to him. He's the one that needs to decipher between good and bad tips. Not to just take anything anyone says as fact and then publish on his website.

"Randy Ubillos, who did the demo, added more features ..."
Great, That's the guy who "redesigned" iMovie and screwed it up. I'll bet he was partially responsible for the "improved" (sic) iPhoto 11 as well.
I'll reserve judgement until this hits the streets.
Who also happens to be the guy in charge of Final Cut since the very beginning. As well as the first three versions of Premiere.

Oh wow the iPod sync feature is great, I've wanted to be able to not have it load everything. This is maybe the best feature ever for iTunes.

My battery serial number was in the 3K437 range, but the website accepted my computers serial number, but not the battery...
So i changed the last letter of my battery serial number from an A to a C (B diden't work)
And it went thru.....
:D sweet
Wow, I have already replied to this one above, but below is his brother apparently.
I have a battery that seems to be on the recall list, I have a PB G4 - Model No. A1148 - Serial No. 3K542...A. But it says that the serial number is invalid. I did try to see if I could switch the last part of the number which is an "A" to "B" or "C" and while it did not take "B", it did take "C" as a valid serial number. I have had my battery for 10 months and it has worked fine and charges up to 100% with no problem and I have had no heating issues to date.
Anyway, I don't know what's up with their site. Just thought I'd contribute my two cents.
So even though I have a MBP and not a PB I can probably get a new battery as well by changing the serial numbers despite what is really on my battery.
COOL!!!!!!!!!!

Top 10 defense contractors employ over 1 million people. If you cut their federal contracts by 40%, how many people will they have to lay off, 40%? 30% 20%. Do the math.
Why is that different for any other part of the federal budget? Federal $ = Federal jobs + Contractor jobs.
Just as a rough estimate using the numbers from http://www2.census.gov/govs/apes/09fedfun.pdf and http://www.wallstats.com/deathandtaxes/
The total discretionary federal budget is ~1.45T and civilian payroll is ~2.5M This comes out roughly to 580K/direct federal civilian job. (Since military is included in the budget, but not the jobs, it's really should be quite a bit lower than that.) And of course the money that does not go to pay a federal employee's salary or benefits will go to pay the salary of benefits of a government contractor or subcontractor. (The number is not that far off from what I am used to as a budgetary consideration for DoD R&D engineering contracts, so I'll stick with it).
So a $60B cut (that isn't enough) will result in > 100K federal jobs lost and likely a similar number of first line government contractors.

Hard drives would not be good AT ALL for an iPod Touch. Apps depend on the instant access that flash memory allows for using data, so a hard drive would slow the whole process up, especially on the processor size.
Have you actually measured it or are you just repeating marketers' tales?
No, "it just ought to be faster" is not the answer.
Until the flash storage is directly accessible by the CPU in the very way RAM is, without the need to read data into RAM, the difference is negligible (think early PocketPC). Besides, add the filesystem layer overhead.

... I think it's safe to assume the 'Mac Pro' is not getting a case redesign. It says 64 bit on the poster -- that is new, so we can assume everything else on the poster is up to date.

Stop complaining about another iPad release - its obviousthere will be a release every 12 months so stop complaining that you just bought an iPad 2.
iPad 3 sounds like a cool gadget, needs to stay ahead of the competition so hopefully Apple get it out first.

For those about.. to use high-capacity player=)
What will be the ideal ipod for you?
For me it is:
Ipod-like model with clickwheel. Support of ALAC. Black/white.
Sata interface instead of zif (with programm support of dual-disks drives and unlimited music titles), so that consumers could choose prefered storage (maybe someone want 32-64gb fast ssd instead of hdd). This also let us install up to 320Gb in this device. To save battery, I would prefer old-fashioned black-white screen. And, if it possible to fit, more advanced music system (for high-end headphones).
This is my vision of iPod line:
If you want touch-screen media player (but for some reason don't want iPhone) = iPod Touch
If iPod Touch is too big = there is nano
If you think nano is still too complicated, you just need something to play mp3's = shuffle
BUT if you are looking for high-end MUSIC player with high capacity option there is new :apple:iPod Classic 7th generation:apple:;).
What do you think? How about a petition=)?:)

Because no one wants to take pictures with the iPad. I want to list all the situations where the iPhone would be much more accessible and easier to take pictures with...but that would be a huge waste of my time. It's pretty obvious.
This made me chuckle. Nice dude.
I want an iPad that takes, at least reasonable quality photo's.
I would not expect DSLR quality, but if I am out and I have my iPad with me, and I wish to take a photo or a video, then at least I would like it to be of a quality that does the moment justice.
The silly thing about this argument is you are defending the indefensible.
There is no reason why a worse item is desirable over a better item all things being equal.
The only reasons are cost, size etc.
1mp camera's should have stopped being made years ago. There is no reason to deliberately make anything worse that you can, unless it's marketing and a planned strategy.

This is interesting. Quite a long way from the days of 32 MB Mp3 players.
Apple with their success I am sure has long term visions for the iPod as a platform beyond music. In a way it's a new computer platform for them.
They have already pushed iPods into education at the university level (I never got the utility in that), but with eBook functionality the plot thickens. Students could buy all their textbooks from iTunes. In fact, there already are specific iTunes stores for colleges (the one I am familiar with is Stanford). And of course, some iTunes albums already come with PDFs. This could herald true album art along with the entire booklet stored on the iPod.
iPods are ubiquitous. But books are even more ubiquitous. But what could be even more ubiquitous than a book? An iPod that is both and iPod and a book!
They were smart to give it such a generic name (iPod) with as broad of a platform as it is becoming.

I didn't fall for it.
And you're an idiot.
Seriously, these forums are so Mac users can help one another. What kind of little person gets joy out of posting false information that could cause another person grief or concern?
Didn't you see the white 'just kidding' above the picture?
Once I started the rumor of the black Macbook actually beeing made of aluminum with some black vinyl on it (thus the $150 premium). A week later, I heard from someone totally messing up his Macbook trying to remove 'the black layer' on his brand new Macbook with a cutter. I laughed my ass of for a week. Totally worth it. :D
