I have to disagree. In this case, integration is not a big deal. But in an office environment, having to switch between programs in order to take care of emails, contacts, appointments, and tasks is a big time waster. Yes, iCal has the event thingy and tasks but the fact remains that its not tightly coordinated like Outlook. I really don't understand why thye just don't put iCal in with Mail.
But then I'd have to use Mail.

There are programs out there that can integrate at least three of these on a Mac, using the internal databases. I like the fact that I don't have to use one program for everything; it usually means a program that doesn't do any as well, and it limits what you can to to what that program offers. With them as seperate componets, I can use only iCal, or only Mail, or only AddressBook, depending on what I need. And since the database is open to other apps, I can get a different address book or whatever if I need it.

I don't see Apples apps as supposed to be the best in catagory. They are supposed to be enough for a casual user. If you want more, you can get programs that allow more. Being seperate is better for this, because if you are a casual user of one but a heavy user of another you can just get a better program for the one you are a heavy user of. (For instance, I'm a heavy user of email, so I have Mulberry. It integrates with Address Book, of which I'm a very light user. And I nearly don't use iCal at all, but I use it just enough to appreciate that it is there. Integrating the three would actually make them less useful to me, because I'd be tied to using them togther, and that's not how I use them.)

Use Outlook, if that's the best program for you. That's fine. Some people don't need that much, but appreciate having the ablity to use some of it on occasion.

Let's hope that iMac with the '64bit' picture next to it means what I think it means for my iMac order ;)

Um, so this (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=221399) big thread doesn't interest you then?

The logos are scattered all over the place, proximity means nothing.

But it's actually better because we are not 100% on coal. We use natural gas, hydro and even wind and solar. So all considered the electric car is much better. In the North East they use a lot of hydro power so a car there really is clean.

To build upon this argument, I'd also suspect that the kind of people who would shell out $40K for this car are the kind of people that will seek out alternative energy providers anyway. Heck, I don't have a hybrid of any kind (yet) but I have Green Mountain power, and I don't even think it's the cheapest around here anymore.

I figured they were talking about network traffic as well. Where would they get the road traffic information from users? I'd like to see a quality turn-by-turn navigation feature become a standard offering and improved traffic info would be a nice plus.

For example: After some opt-in, your phone records its GPS locations, finds out what looks like driving based on speed etc., sends the data to Apple, where they use it to find streets that are not in their mapping software, and the most useful thing would be average speed data depending on the time of day. If you are in a traffic jam and want to be helpful, you press a button to send the information right now, not when you are near to some WiFi. So people can be directed on the best routes based on actual average speeds, and they can be sent around traffic jams in real time.

There's no way to distinguish between whether the user is a pedestrian or in a vehicle.
Could be a cyclist flying along roads, or a person jogging, at the same pace as a car stuck in traffic. Has the car stopped because of heavy traffic, or because they can't hold it in any longer!!

There's way to many variables to consider for this to be about them collecting road traffic information.

It's not a trivial problem, but not really _that_ difficult. If it ever goes over 30mph then it's a car, and if it doesn't stop at a stop sign then it's a bicycle :-) Seriously, it's quite possible to sort this out. And there are many iPhones around, so if you have some iPhones at 30 mph and some at 4 mph on the same road, then you know who are drivers and who are pedestrians. If iPhones move at an average of 3 mph through your favourite park, then turn-by-turn software won't direct car traffic there, whether it is pedestrians or enormous traffic jam.

I'll use this if it offers new releases. Look out Netflix.

When combined with Front Row, (YouTube and other entertaining media streams) and EyeTV via the Miglia TVmini HD, this makes a great addition to the Mac Mini as entertainment cetner. :D

Stereo speakers. Most of use can tell if a sound is in front of us or behind or above or below and we only have two ears. You can make 3D recording with ony two channles but the playback geometry has to be near perfect. Synthetic sound cues are not recordings and it need not be perfect to work. All it would have to convey is any one of six basic directions and the users will all be trained to listen for it carfully and wiling to set up the speakers in exact locations. It might be helpfull to someone who is blind. I know some one who is and he can sometimes tell who enters a room and from where before the person speaks. If this is the target user then it need not be perfect or even natural sounding

Technically you need 3 speakers to produce 3d sound. Manufacures claim they can do it with 2 but they don't. You need a center channel to balance the sides.

So like all new editing packages, we'll wait until Apple ships it to us. We'll install it on one system and evaluate it before we start having people switch over. With any new software there are usually tradeoffs and we will evaluate the final product in a work environment before we would commit to purchasing all the licenses we would need.
About the most sensible statement on this thread so far.

Even if your assertion is true, did you notice that the keyword in your post is "encouraged" and not "outlawed".

If France merely "encouraged" Muslim women to forgo the veil and burqa, I think there's very little I would say against such encouragement.

I don't need to source something that is common knowledge. And did you notice the quotes? Means they did a bit more then just kind of asked.... Do u really think a woman walking around most Muslim countries in shorts and a cut off tee shirt are safe?

A consistent interface would be nice (and "Apple-like"), but I want increased functionality, efficiency, and for god's sake, some decent networking!! Call me a noob-hater-asshat, but why can't Apple get their networking in order? I know, I know, it's windows' fault, but it's not just pc>mac networking, it's mac>mac as well. Improve that and it's worth the upgrade to me alone.

The engine cradle of the new Corvette C6 is made primarily of magnesium. If magnesium is the choosen material to contain a 7 liter engine spinning at 7,200 rpms at temperatures hot enough to boil water, it should be good enough for the lowly iPod. Now the MBP, thats another story.
    LOL !

See the guy in the crowd with the "I support two teams NZ and whoevers playing Australia" classic couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm sure a few Scots could adapt that for international football.

We've never forgiven the Aussies for the infamous underarm bowling incident. (http://www.mcg.org.au/default.asp?pg=historydisplay&articleid=194)

    Well, I haven't anyway. :D

If Leopard is released before Vist I won;\'t go near it with a 20 meter cattle prod and even if they gave it away for free. Leopard released that soon would scream revenge of the Tiger launch. Honestly a january lauch of eather Vista or Leopard doesn't serve anyone. For windows they missed the lucrative holiday sales rush and only the after x-mas bargan shoppers are looking to buy in ist quarter. For Apple school sales won't begin for months.
All that a January Leopard launch would prove would be the immaturity of the people running Apple. e.g. Its better to ship an OS that probably has a ton of bugs in it to be able to thumb our collective noses at MS then ship a solid product. IMHO I'm REALLY hoping for a WWDC launch of Leopard.
