Almost all developers live in a world where they code to specs and standards. Their code is then reviewed by other developers, tested repeatedly and then approved for implementation.
Apple's model isn't different from what most companies do internally.
Yeah, the point just flew right above your head. Just like 99% of the posters on this thread. This is not about others "reviewing" our apps. It is about the process itself. Do you know that Trillian (yep, the messenger) has been in review for 2 months now without a word from Apple?
Spending time, money, and effort working on an App, submitting it then sitting not knowing what is going to happen or when you are going to hear back from them is ridiculous. Assuming after waiting 3 weeks, they found a bug in your app. You know what happens? Even if you can fix the bug in 1 min? You are sent to the back of the queue for another 3 weeks. That is almost 2 months to get your app to the store. I know some dude who had his app approved after 4 months. A complete joke!

If it's going to have a huge screen why not make it have a satellite based navigation system too. That would be handy...

this is a great point and something that would totally enhance the ipod line.
here's why:
1. points of reference - my garmn gps has PORs for anywhere i go...picture it: gas stations, restaurants, historical landmarks etc.. i believe it even has cinemas too. think of walking around as a tourist after dloading the map to a new city and know exactly where you are going.
2. memory - maps don't take a lot of memory. my garmin only has 64 or 128 MBs...so, a few songs worth, of maps. and i have ALOT of territory on it. in fact, about 18 driving hours worth, including fully maps of major cities.
3. ipods are already integrated into vehicles and personal gps' are growing huge in popularity. combine this with an impatient society wanting everything in 1 gadget :)
of course, i'm sure the electronic side of things in terms of connecting to sats etc.. might cause issues, but it's an interesting thought at least.

MBP's on September 12th are sounding even better and better. Now there's no big iMac to introduce, but there is a macbook pro update that I need to be introduced to!
24" iMac SWEET! If I needed a new desktop, I don't think I'd get one though. I've got a perfectly good 20" FP at home. I guess I'd have to get the MacPro. Darn it :D

Bear in mind, Jobs is making fun of wireless capacities today. Apple probably waited for the right time to release the "video" iPod (IMHO they could've waited for at least 640x480), so it's not as bad as you describe it.
There are other wireless capacities that wuld be much more useful, for example, wirless bluetooth headphones. (Like logitech makes, but without the external transmitter)

(ahem) There IS a difference. Photoshop is far more advanced that Pixelmator for P-R-O-F-E-S-S-I-O-N-A-L work. It has a deeper set of tools and features available.
And some of them even work properly :-)

Okay, by now you should realize that things between the PC world and the Mac world aren't so black and white now.
XP & 2k are much more crash proof than 9x, have become more user-friendly and have become a better value than the Mac in some ways.
The major issue right now betwen PCs and Macs isn't any of those however, it's raw speed.
With Intel approaching 3Ghz by November, the fastest Mac at 1.25Ghz (duals or not) is just not loking very speedy by comparison.
Granted, they're not THAT slow, but they're far from where they could be.
There was a time when the Mhz myth was valid, then CPUs started to hit Ghz, then twice that, now at 3Ghz.
If I'm shopping for a speedy computer right now, what looks fastest, a dual 1.25Ghz G4 or a single 3Ghz PIV?
Even Photoshop, long favored on the Mac platform is going to render faster on a top of the line PC.
Now, don't get me wrong, there are a lot of reasons to choose a Mac over a PC at the moment, but speed is not one of them.
My question to you is, whose fault is it that we have this problem?
Is it Apple's for not pushing Moto to make faster chips?
Is it Moto for not giving any intrest in making faster chips?
Is it Intel, for making consumers think that Mhz is a valid measure for performanance?
Could Apple have threatened Moto with moving over to IBM chips much earler to get them to crank out some killer chips, or does Moto not care too much about selling chips to Apple because they make more money in the embedded chip market?
Could Intel have resorted to a better marketing move than cranking up the Mhz every chance it got?
You decide.
Sticking the blame on someone and complaining about what should have been done isn't going to do much now, but in the future we can hopefully use this knowledge to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

Anybody have a sense of whether this update will work for the MBP's? And if not, why Apple decided to ignore the exact same issue on their pro line?

imho the reason why apple hasnt filled the void of a 12"powerbook equivilent is because they plan on expanding their overall product range. more portable notebooks, tablets, etc. all in the scope of vision

LOL! That's precisely why the "limited supply" iPad2 launch was such a fiasco. You impulse buyers couldn't pull the trigger. Seriously... were this any other company other than Apple at least top 3 execs would have had their asses thrown out the door.
As an aside... my local Wal-Mart has had iPad2's for 2 weeks now. I've been there at least 3 times a week and they're always in stock.

Anybody familiar with production and distribution issues knows that despite excellent planning there may be issues during production that cannot be forecast.

This claim is largely regarded as a spotlight grab, and there is no evidence that the reseller has any inside information.

The product numbers are in sequence, which is common for products in the same family, and suggests that the numbers will be used as the replacement numbers for Apple's 3 MacBook models. You have to love small towns. I spent about an hour and a half in one Saturday morning getting my taxes done, so I pulled out the camera while I was waiting. I have a few keepers (by my standards of course, which are pretty low) to show over the next few days.

Manufacturing build wealth, generate revenue and helps a nation defend itself in time of war, we have shipped most of that overseas. So what happens when we have to go to war on a world scale? The U.S has been protecting Taiwan for several years and what have the done for the U.S? Nothing!
If we go to war on a global scale, I wouldn't really worry about the economics. We have been protecting Taiwan-Quemoy-Matsu since 1949 for our own political, military and espionage purposes. They're not required to provide cheap labor in return.

Itunes movie rentals, updated apple tv, and slingbox for iphone is on the air
current iphone gets improved bluetooth for listening over the air, Google maps gets triangulation for getting location over the air, Starbucks lets you order coffee over the air
