That's seriously not cool. For one, you're basically stealing someone else's replacement battery, since when they put in their number that happens to have a C instead of your B it's going to say they already sent the battery out. And second, when it comes time to return your defective battery don't you think they're going to notice it's entirely the wrong type?

    Bad plan.

Doesn't matter where Apple sells its products. Better to make your products available everywhere than in just one or two specific stores. Remember: Not every city has an Apple store and can be quite a distance to the closest.

Best Buy is an ideal place to sell iPads, since its a consumer electronics store.... Apple is a consumer electronics company ( these days ).

BTW - Best Buy has been selling iPads for a long time, so only makes sense they sell iPad 2...

I assume that you have the Mono set. If so, you have the better one (other than missing Abbey Road and Let It Be. As has been said many times they are better mixes and the differences are fairly significant in places. Due to the differences, it's easier to argue that you need the both.

I like the Mono set packaging, with the replica sleeves, but the stereo set packaging is also very good with better sleeve notes and the mini documentaries. The box set comes with all the documentaries on one DVD which is better than watching them individually on the CD's

Go on, you know you want to. :)

I don't have the mono set but I listen to lossless CD rips with my iPhone set to mono. In mono I get to hear what George Martin really had in mind. An additional benefit is that mono tends to hide George's horrible guitar playing, attempts at singing songs too difficult for their singing abilities and most of all horrible stereo versions that resulted from down mixing with primitive recording equipment.

In all fairness to The Beatles the modern concept of stereo intended for headphone use with centered voices, duplicated guitars at maximum spread and slightly spread but centered drums hadn't been invented yet. Especially for the earlier albums the mono sound is The Beatles sound.

No more PowerBook. Love the new Mac Mini, I would put in an SSD, but they're still too expensive, and I really don't need one. Its extremely quiet anyway.

Stock Mac Mini 2.4ghz + 4gb of RAM (Crucial off Newegg)
20" Cinema Display (I'm going to mount that powerbrick behind the desk, I hate looking at it)
    Bose Companion 2 speakers
    64gb iPad WiFi
    160gb iPod Classic

    Wow! I love your setup.
    The Mac Mini looks amazing
not to mention all that other nice stuff on your desk :)

    Are Apple any different?

All their product is made in Asia, I'm sure they bully their suppliers to get the best prices and there have been question marks over the working conditions in the factories they use.

Everyone wants lower prices and better quality. A lot of people feel guilty due to the effects this has on other people, but not guilty enough to actually stop shopping at the cheapest shops.

I agree. Apple and Wal-mart are just companies. They are not evil or benevolent. They compete in a very competitive market and can in no way be considered monopolies.

Wal-Mart doesn't drive local mom & pop companies out of business. The people who shop at Wal-Mart drive the local mom & pop business away. If Wal-Mart is so evil, bad to employees, sells rotten product, why is it that so many people shop there?

Sure Wal-Mart pressures suppliers to lower their price, so does everyone else. That is why prices drop when supply is high or demand is down. Sure Wal-Mart puts pressure on local business. So does every business that competes in that market including mail order.

If the local business can't stay afloat in their market then it just means that customers are choosing for whatever reason to go somewhere else.

I don't particularly care for Wal-Mart myself and I don't shop there except for as a convience for the most mundane products. But I can't stand all this whining! This is a free world. If you are a consumer, shop where you choose and those companies will reap the reward. If you are a supplier supply to who you wish, if you have a great product it will sell. If you are a competitor, do whatever you can to keep prices low, quality high, customer satisfaction high, and you will stay in business.

    What's the big deal!

Doesn't matter how much they made.
It matters, because it proves "pirates" are not a big problem for Adobe.

If you want to use pro tools, you pay for them like an adult. Or you're just a thieving child.

    Calm down kid!

And btw, how can a "thieving child" use "pro tools" in a professional way? Does not make any sense.

I think we should call them "Professional Pirates (without a ship)". *lol*

Not quite sure why anyone thinks this is a big deal, or would even want it. 3G or Wifi. I mean, do you need an OS update so badly you can't wait until you can just plug it into a computer and have it done in a few minutes?

Not being sarcastic, just think it is kind of a totally useless "feature". Now wireless sync on the other hand is something that would be nice for daily sync, backup etc.

As I've stated before, No Way does Apple realease the updated MBPs before the iPad is released!

Yes, I know that they are two different categories, but the MBPs would definitely steal a lot of the iPad's thunder.

I, too, would love to have the MBPs. Unfortunately, we are all just going to have to wait a while longer...

They make all of Nikons sensors, even the high end D3S and D3X dSLRs ones. They also made (or make?) Canon point and shoot sensors; at least as of a few years ago. Sony was one of the first with backlit CMOS as well.

Oh, and I think Pentax, if you want to consider them a camera compay, uses Sony sensors.

Mostly. They fabricate Nikon's sensors and most of their non-pro ones are pretty much identical but the pro level sensors are Nikon's design on Sony's base layers. Also Nikon custom designs the image pipelines and A/D converters. Even so, Sony, Kodak, and Canon are the biggest fabricators for image sensors.

Sony's problems in the market place come from bungling, a not-so-great lens mount and poor positioning against the two big players.

I think Apple has really reached a fork in the road when it comes to the iPod.

Do they really want to start selling these things as vidoe players, not just music players that play video? If so, everyone knows they need a bigger screen and that is going to run up the price of the iPod.

    So they have a choice:
    (1) Introduce a true video iPod and ask more for it.
    (2) Drop in bigger HDs into the current line.

The introduction of movie rentals might be a testing ground to see if people are really buying the idea. So if the iVideo Store (?) does well, this might indicate that people really want true, big scree video iPods. If it does so-so that might tell Apple that they should just keep the iPod primarilly a music player and the vidoe playback be an extra feature.

If they do introduce a more expensive, full screen iPod, they need a cheap[er], higher capacity only-music player too. This is where the Nano comes in. They need to be sure they have a good, well built, atractive line of Nanos for their customers that do not want to take the plunge to the video side.

The introduction of a new Nano and a video store but not a 6G iPod might indicate that they are stilling trying to decide which direction to take the 6G. I would say that if they do introduce the video store and a new Nano on the 12th a new iPod will be out before Christmas (no later that Thanksgiving, late November).

All this is based on the assumption that a true video iPod would cost more than the current line. I make this assumption based on the fact that they need bigger hard drives, bigger screens, and better battery. All these improvements are bound to increase the price.

I believe they'll just up the storage this time around. Then maybe in another year (or whenver most reasonable) they'll release a TRUE iPod video, and as for battery life - by this point would it be unreasonable to have a 16-32 GB flash-based iPod's? Sure that might be stepping on the nano's ground, but it would increase battery life and I'm sure they could offer a thicker HDD based model with 120 GB or something outrageous for those who need/want the storage, even if it means having a twice as thick iPod or something... I've read that it's possible that flash will drop to prices that a 32 GB iPod in a year isn't too unbelievable. Seeing that the Nano should double from 4-8 Gig's year over year, I would imagine another double 8-16 isn't too farfetched, and 32 a possibility at a higher price point.

Then again maybe increasing the ram or whatever chip that gives the 60 gig 5G iPod better battery life then the 30 gig may be enough in and of itself. But I have no idea... Just some thoughts though, rumor on friends.

Yet people happily go there and spend money in droves, because as much as they dislike a large company bullying other companies (and in this case, the competition) and as much as they dislike supporting sweatshops or a bad employer, they dislike wasting their meager paycheck on markups even more.

It's the same Starbucks mentality that fills the world with hypocrisy.

I think you're giving people too much credit - I'll bet most don't know about Wal-Mart's shadyness, don't care and wouldn't care if they DID know.

It might not be David v.s. Goliath but all the suits at Wal-Mart certainly are a bunch of Philistines.

Can you point out any war in history that meets your ivory tower qualifications?

I've always felt that WW2 was justified though the way we ended the war was unfortunate and un-necessary.

I'm also generally in support of intervening to stop genocide/ethnic cleansing.

    Unnecessary Wars:

    Revolutionary
    War 1812
    Civil War
    Spanish American War
    WW1
    Korean War
    Vietnam War
Desert Storm (Iraq 1.0) maybe necessary but easily avoided

Well put. What makes Apple richest isn't necessarily best for users or developers.

A question for Apple defenders: the quality of applications and security from malware would greatly increase if Apple starting gatekeeping everything that could run on your Mac. Are you in favor of them starting such a policy? If not, why is that different from the iPhone?

Here is a copy of an e-mail I sent to the FTC and DOJ yesterday (by way of copy from an e-mail to David Porter, the offending Wal-Mart executive). I urge everyone to do something similar:

    Send to dporter@walmart.com, antitrust@ftc.com, and antitrust.complaints@usdoj.gov

    Dear Mr. Porter:

By this letter and by copy to the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice I hereby notify you that your reported behavior constitutes numerous violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act and the Federal Trade Commission Act. As reported in a wide variety of sources, you have been meeting with the heads of large movie studios and threatening to purchase fewer or return product from those studios that agree to distribute movies over Apple iTunes service (see, e.g., http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/09/22/wal.mart.threatens.studios/). This is an egregious restraint of trade that severely effects interstate commerce. News reports indicate that you have already "punished" Disney by returning thousands of DVDs and refusing to sell them. Because Wal-Mart sells 40% of the physical DVDs in the United States, you are in a privileged position and are abusing your market power. You are seeking to obtain concessions to sell content at Apple's prices (which does not include the manufacture, shipment, and sale of a physical item). Apple has innovated - something WalMart is incapable of -- and WalMart now wants to take advantage of Apple's innovation.

I urge the FTC and the DOJ to open criminal investigations into your behavior. In addition, your conduct violates your own "Corporate Code of Ethics," making a mockery of your supposed corporate values.

You should be ashamed of your luddite and monopolistic behavior.

Nope. Probably not even close. The Air doesn't have the processors or graphics required for even the current version

Does nobody do any research? The MacBook Air meets the requirements for the current version of Final Cut as listed on Apple's website. The only one that doesn't is the Early 2008 model because of the Integrated Intel graphics.
